The story
The French 75 cocktail was created during World War I at the New York Bar in Paris, attributed to the bartender Harry MacElhone. It is named after the French 75mm field gun, which was known for its kick, mirroring the cocktail's potency. The drink gained popularity in the 1920s and has remained a classic ever since.
