The story
The Mai Tai is believed to have been created in the early 1940s by Victor J. 'Trader Vic' Bergeron at his Trader Vic's restaurant in Oakland, California. The drink gained immense popularity after being served to a group of friends visiting from Tahiti, who exclaimed, 'Mai Tai roa ae!' meaning 'out of this world' in Tahitian.
