The story
The Old Fashioned dates back to the early 19th century, with roots in the Sazerac and the Whiskey Cocktail. It was named in the 1880s when patrons at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky, began ordering their whiskey cocktails in a simpler fashion, hence the term 'old-fashioned.'
